Kidneys, Quilts & Lovely Blooms

I got my most recent lab report today. Good news all around, and especially for the kidneys. The low oxsalate diet is showing results. My serum oxsalate level has gone from 7.4 last March to 5.6 in July and is now 3.5. Of course that's still twice the normal level, but at least it's falling which should mean that my kidneys will calcify at a much slower rate. Beyond that, my hemoglobin is in the normal range, while my white count continues to be low, but not hazardously so. In general, I'm pleased.

Last week I finished this charity quilt. I even quilted it myself. It's made from partialy donated fabric and intended for some mid-age kid at Youthville. Turns out that I've quite fallen in love with this one. It may be that charity will begin at home.Remember the first Monkshood blooms I showed you several weeks ago? Well, it's still blooming and even more magnificent now. We are hours away from a possible killing frost, and it's almost November. I love that this one blooms so late.

Fall Turning

It's late October, the cool weather has returned, and it was cloudy and dark-ish most of the day. Certainly felt like fall. So, time for the Fall turning. While cleaning, I took off the summer slip cover and put on the fall/winter one. Also replaced the pillows with the dark and velvet ones. Notice also, the tasteful little arrangement of fall gourds on the coffee table. Just a bit of Martha Stewart right here in V.C.

My agenda for the day got diverted, however. I always think that changing the slipcovers is no just a little job. Not so. And then I got caught up in blinds, curtains, etc. Tomorrow I am tackling the storage room. For sure!

Lake Living

I've always wanted to live on a lake. It's a bit late to think that might happen for me, but it was nice to visit Kellie and enjoy her lake. This is the view from her shore. The water was glassy smooth the whole time I was there. Certainly not a Kansas lake! And this is me enjoying the lake. And it certainly seems to be a good spot to gather with friends -- day or night.

Florida Trip - First Report

It was my turn to stay at Kellie & Kim's house, which I had not seen before. So, I got to spend a good deal of time with them. But also spent time with Carrie and Gary.We went to Kellie's shop first thing. Isn't it swanky?I got a haircut from the pro. Then we went to Carrie's office. And on to lunch at Hamburger Mary's.Calvin was a bit scarce over the week-end, but I did see him a bit. My, how he's changed since last summer!Livie is also quite the young lady. She was getting ready for her first high school choir concert. And then there was this thing with her feet. Seems that socks and 'slides' are the in thing now. I'm wondering if that is just a Florida thing. This may be my all time hardest to understand kid's cool-thing.

UPDATE BEFORE TRAVELLING

NELDA'S VISIT: We went to Homecoming in Fredonia on Saturday. Another parade! And a cousin family: Mel's son, Chris with wife Jen and daughter Emmy.THE GARDEN: Monkshood is my favorite late season bloomer. These iridescent blue blooms appear on top of.......the nearly 5 ft. tall plant below.QUILTS: This one has been on my bed for a couple of months. I started it last fall after Linda and I found the last two perfect fabrics on one of our summer outings. This is a charity quilt made from donated fabric and destined for some child going through the Youthville system. The big deal on it is that I actually did the machine quilting myself. A first!
